My number ported but things aren't working - what do I do?

Finish these quick steps after porting to make sure everything switches over cleanly. 📱

Once your port has completed and you've gotten your confirmation email from Popcorn, there are a few things on your phone itself that need to be updated so your Popcorn eSIM takes over properly.

✅ After porting, do this

Work through this checklist in order:

  • Turn your phone off and on
This forces your phone to refresh its connection and pick up the ported number on your Popcorn eSIM.

  • Deactivate the previous eSIM with the same number
If your old carrier's eSIM (with the same number) is still installed and active, it can conflict with your new Popcorn eSIM. Go into your phone's cellular settings and turn it off or remove it.

  • Retick your number in iMessage settings
Go to Settings → Messages → Send & Receive (or Settings → Messages → iMessage) and make sure your ported number is checked. Numbers sometimes get unchecked automatically during a port.

⚠️ Please note:

  • Having more than one active line with the same number on your device is one of the most common causes of connectivity issues right after a port.

  • Give your phone a minute or two after restarting before testing calls or texts - it can take a moment to fully register on the network.

🔁 Still not working?

If you've been through the checklist above and things still aren't working, don't worry - this usually just means your eSIM profile needs to be refreshed:

  1. Open the Popcorn app

  2. Go to Settings → eSIMs → [your ported line] → eSIM Support

  3. Select New eSIM

  4. Follow the instructions to install a new eSIM

This generates a fresh eSIM tied to your number and typically resolves any lingering issues.

❓FAQs

Why do I need to turn my phone off and on after porting?

Restarting refreshes your phone's connection to the network, which helps it properly recognize the new Popcorn eSIM now carrying your number.

What happens if I don't deactivate my old eSIM?

Keeping two active lines with the same number can cause conflicts — you might notice dropped calls, missed texts, or your phone switching between networks unexpectedly.

Why did my iMessage settings change after porting?

This can happen automatically during the porting process. It's a good idea to double check Settings → Messages afterward to make sure your number is still ticked.
